  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp butter (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp heavy cream
  • Patriotic sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and optional almond extract; mix well.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the baking powder, flour, cornstarch, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the wet ingredients until fully combined.
  4. Spread the dough evenly in the prepared baking dish and bake for about 15 minutes or until lightly golden around the edges. Allow cooling before frosting.
  5. For the frosting, beat together softened butter and powdered sugar in a clean bowl. Add vanilla extract and heavy cream; mix until smooth. Spread over cooled cookie bars and top with patriotic sprinkles.
