  • 1 box German chocolate cake mix
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 bag Kraft caramels
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/4 cup evaporated milk
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup pecans
  • 16-ounce can chocolate frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. In a mixing bowl, prepare the German chocolate cake mix as directed by adding eggs, vegetable oil, and water; mix until combined.
  3. Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan and bake for approximately 15 minutes until just set.
  4. While baking, melt together caramels, butter, and evaporated milk in a medium saucepan over medium heat until smooth.
  5. After the first layer has baked, pour the caramel mixture over it and sprinkle with chocolate chips and chopped pecans.
  6. Pour the remaining batter over the toppings in the pan and bake for another 20 minutes or until fully set.
  7. Allow cooling completely before frosting with chocolate frosting.
