  • 4 large russet potatoes
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 yellow onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups half and half
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 3 tablespoons salted butter
  • 3/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground sage
  • 1 ½ cups mixed frozen vegetables
  • Salt/Pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Peel and chop the potatoes into thirds. Boil in salted water until fork-tender, then drain and mash with sour cream.
  2. In a stock pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess grease and set aside.
  3. In the same pot, melt butter and sauté diced onions until softened. Add minced garlic.
  4. Stir flour into the onion mixture, then gradually whisk in chicken broth until smooth.
  5. Mix in Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, mustard powder, and sage.
  6. Stir in half and half; bring to a boil before reducing to a simmer.
  7. Incorporate mashed potatoes into the broth, then add cooked beef and mixed vegetables.
  8. Stir in shredded cheese until melted; season to taste.
