  • 5 medium apples, sliced
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 3/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 and 1/2 cups salted butter, melted
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 and 1/2 cups light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 and 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tbsp salted butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup + 1 tbsp heavy cream
  • pinch of fine sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, toss sliced apples with lemon juice, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, ground cloves, and salt.
  3. Melt salted butter in a large bowl and mix in flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt until combined.
  4. Press half of the mixture into the prepared pan as the crust and top with seasoned apples.
  5. Sprinkle reserved crumb mixture over the apples.
  6. Bake for 38 to 45 minutes until golden brown and apples are tender.
  7. For salted caramel sauce: melt sugar until golden brown; add cubed butter and cream and stir until smooth.
  8. Cool bars before slicing; drizzle with salted caramel before serving.
