  • 1 package (14oz) individually wrapped caramels
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 7 oz chocolate candy bar
  • 2 tbsp shortening (divided)
  • 1 cup colored candy coating melts
  • crushed peanuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare a baking sheet lined with waxed paper and spray with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Boil water in a large pot, then dip the apples for 10-20 seconds to remove wax; dry thoroughly.
  3. Insert wooden sticks into the cores of cooled apples.
  4. Melt caramels with 2 tablespoons of water in the microwave until smooth.
  5. Dip each apple in melted caramel, allowing excess to drip off before placing on the baking sheet.
  6. Refrigerate for 15 minutes to set.
  7. Melt chocolate with shortening and coat apples, returning them to the baking sheet afterward.
