  • 8 wooden sticks
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon red gel or liquid food coloring
  • 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 3 ounces white chocolate, chopped or chips
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and insert wooden sticks into each apple.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, water, and cream of tartar. Stir until mixed.
  3. Heat the mixture over medium heat until boiling; do not stir further.
  4. Once it reaches 250°F, add food coloring and swirl gently.
  5. Continue boiling until it reaches 300°F; then remove from heat.
  6. Dip each apple quickly into the hot candy mixture and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Let the coating set for about 10 minutes.
  8. Melt white chocolate with coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl.
  9. Drizzle melted chocolate over cooled candy apples and allow it to set for another 10 minutes before serving.
