  • 1 cup hot coffee (or boiling water)
  • 6 ounces chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups whole milk (for pudding)
  • 1½ cups unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • 6 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • ⅔ cup milk (for frosting; add more if needed)
  • Crushed Oreo cookies and pectin-based gummy candies for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a greased 9×13 baking pan.
  2. In a stand mixer, combine sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Gradually add to the dry ingredients while mixing.
  4. Stir in hot coffee or boiling water until combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30–35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  6. Prepare the pudding by whisking together chocolate pudding mix and milk until smooth. Spread over the cooled cake and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  7. For the frosting: Melt butter and whisk in cocoa powder before cooling slightly. Mix in powdered sugar alternating with milk until smooth.
  8. Frost the cake after chilling, then top with crushed Oreos and gummy candies.
